DWD achieve planning permission for 49.9 Megawatt Solar Farm in Metropolitan Green Belt, Essex

Infrastructure & Energy

DWD is pleased to have secured planning permission on behalf of Low Carbon for the construction and operation of a 49.9 Megawatt solar photovoltaic farm located in the Metropolitan Green Belt within administrative area of Rochford District Council, Essex. The application was approved by the Development Committee on 23 November 2023.

DWD have been heavily involved in the project from the pre-application stage, including local community consultation, leading on the planning all the way through to determination. Using a parameters-based approach, which adopted the principles of the ‘Rochdale Envelope’, DWD worked closely with the planning officer and in collaboration with a number of sub-consultants to ensure a positive result at planning committee.

Located adjacent to other existing, approved and proposed solar farms, special care was taken throughout the process with regards to cumulative impacts.

As well as producing enough clean energy to power over 16,500 homes annually, the scheme provides extensive landscaping and significant biodiversity benefits.
